ISDN Video Conferencing And What You Can Do Using It
|
When the topic is of video conferencing, it is important to know about the basic technologies used for it. ISDN video conferencing is one of the coolest and efficient methods of video conferencing. ADSL is another technology which is often compared with ISDN for providing video conferencing. Every type of video conference system has its own benefits and disadvantages. It is not always very easy to choose one among various video conferencing systems. Here, we will discuss in detail one of the best system- ISDN video conferencing. ISDN stands for Integrated Services Digital Network. It is a networking system based on phone and allows transfer of audio and video signals over a standard copper phone line. The ISDN technologies were designed in 1980s and they allowed a video conferencing system to function efficaciously when earlier efforts had mostly failed. The video conferencing system based on ISDN allows users to broadcast 2 or more types of data like audio, video, text, or fax, simultaneously via a standard phone connection, that too in a digital format. To prevent problems like glitches in audio, choppy video, etc., in ISDN a minimal transfer rate is sustained throughout. These problems were very basic with the previous efforts to create a good video conferencing system. One of the features of ISDN is known as PRI ISDN T1 and is aimed at the users who possess much higher capacity needs. It contains 23 B channels plus a sole 64 Kbps D channel. Every channel has a capacity of 64Kbps, which enables an aggregate transmission speed of 1.536 Mbps. In this technology, you can also pre-define the count of channels used to handle data delivery or particular types of calls. This means that various channels can be used to accomplish assorted things on different channels at the same time. Hence, PRI ISDN provides much higher flexibility than the other type of ISDN known as BRI ISDN. In present times, a large number of companies use ISDN PRIs for the purpose of video conferencing to manage bigeminal video calls, at the same time. However, some feel that other video conferencing systems are better than ISDN. But the fact remains that ISDN video conferencing is still used at large in many companies. To go for ISDN video conferencing is recommended. However, it is not mandatory and you can chose what you want. To do that, you must first figure out the conferencing requirements of your business. Then depending on your budget, you can select the most suitable ISDN video conferencing system. |
