Video Conferencing

The concept of video conferencing is easily traceable to the invention of television. But in fact, the very first HD video conferencing was experimented by NASA. High Definition or HD video conferencing was exhibited in the early 90s. Since then, its use has spread across to many fields.

In the previous times, the video quality was very poor. But, everyone understood the importance of video conferencing. Hence, regular attempts were made to improve the quality of the video. Many companies invested heavily in its improvement to achieve the transmission techniques of a high definition video conferencing.

NASA was the first to unwittingly try out HD video conferencing as it needed it to conference with their astronauts, when in space. The huge distance between space and earth demanded extreme HD video conferencing capabilities. This was achieved by NASA with the use of high frequencies to connect up and down between the stations of earth and space.

Since then this technology has been employed widely, especially by news channels to conduct a conference between their base studio and mobile news vans. At present, high definition video conferencing has become common with the technology getting transformed from analog format to digital, all around the world.

In the beginning of 1990s, High Definition Video conferencing was very expensive and hence couldn't be used for routine applications like telemedicine, business meetings, distance education, and so on. To transmit video, normal telephone networks were used, which failed completely due to the pathetic picture quality and lack of effective video compression methods.

But today, it is the Internet which has enabled HD video conferencing to be used at large scale. This allowed several people from dissimilar walks of life to capitalize on this great technology.

High definition video conferencing commenced as a significant means of communications between scientific, defense and government organizations. This communications technology had great utility which was recognized and hence the demand rose by leaps and bounds. Because of it, this technology grew from the early looped low definition video conferencing to the currently employed high definition video conferencing techniques.

At present, this technology is not limited to the category of the high and mighty. Many students use it to foster their studies by participating in high definition video conferencing arranged by their universities at distant places.

Not just this, HD video conferencing has allowed house-wives to use this technology from the conveniences of their households. The retired and aged people are able to view and speak to their whole family members who are spread all around the world, that too at a flick of the switch.

HD video conferencing has undergone much advancement. It is used in assorted work areas. Yet it has a long way to cover before it will become affordable and convenient for everyone.
